"A Church You Can Call Home"

KBC Board Reports / Notes

Dear KBC Members & Friends,

We live in a big world, with big needs. It can seem overwhelming to even start thinking about how to make a difference. That is why it is so important to remember that God calls his church to respond—not just one or two people, but the whole Body of Christ. The World Mission Offering allows us to join together with American Baptists across the country to respond to a needy world.

Both Kit Ripley and Dan Chetti visited with us this summer, reminding us that right now, we have partners working in parts of the world we can’t get to, with people we can’t talk to, sharing the good news of Jesus that is so precious to us and to them. Our missionaries work all over the world because we provide support for their ministries. They need our prayers. They need our gifts.

For almost 200 years, American Baptists have sent and supported men and women whose calling was to make disciples of all nations. They no longer spend weeks on a sailing ship to reach their destination or wait months for a response to letters sent home. There have been changes to how they work, but not why. It is still about bringing good news to those who need most to hear it.

During October, you have the opportunity to join hands with our missionaries around the world in fulfilling Jesus assignment to the church. Use the envelope, enclosed with the Compass, to return your gift to the World Mission Offering any Sunday this month. If it is more convenient, you may mail it back to the church office. Prayerfully consider your level of support. Give generously and joyfully in response to the call of Jesus.

Thank you for your continuing support for our mission throughout the world.

Serving together in Christ’s work,
The KBC Mission Board

Reflections From Our Cancer Care Meeting

When trouble comes your way or tragedy strikes, do you cry out, "Why me?" I did. Hear what the LORD says, "Who are you oh man to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this? Woe to the one who quarrels with his Maker, an earthenware vessel among the vessels of the earth. Will the clay say to the Potter, 'What are you doing? Romans 9:20; Isaiah 45:9 - OUCH!"

Have you ever considered asking, "Why not me?" God‘s Word provides a simple answer to our "Why" questions: He says, "I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display My power in you and that My name might be declared in all the earth." Romans 9:17 When we embrace this truth, our burdens become blessings and our problems become privileges.

Whatever circumstance God has allowed into your life know this: God's desire is that we be conduits of His power for His name to be revealed and glori-fied. He will use all things for HIS glory. This is the heart of Romans 8:28 – we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Jesus is the Light of the world and He desires that we become His witnesses – like a candle on a lamp stand, His Light shines out in the darkness of this world. We have this treasure (the Light of His presence) in earthen vessels (our lives), so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves. 2 Corinthians 4:7.  We often suffer as Light- bearers.

However, our suffering can never be compared to what Jesus experienced when He tasted death – separation from God – for us. Yet His obedience is given as an example for us to follow when we en-counter sorrows and hardships. Recall the words of Jesus before He went to the cross, "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done." Luke 22:42

White Cross

During this past year, the women of KBC and friends fulfilled our requests from national and international missions.  Donations of money were sent to missions in India ($92), Uganda ($22) and the Philippines ($36 plus 10 health kits).

Our mission hospitals in D. R. Congo received 500 cotton squares, 7 operating masks, 5 surgical caps, and 30 roller bandages (5 inches by 5 yards). Baby layette kits were assembled and sent to Tabernacle Baptist Church in Utica, NY (4), Neighborhood Ministries in Providence, RI (5), and Church World Service (2). School supplies were sent to Lake Ave. Baptist Church for their Burmese refugee services program.

KBC women either donated or bought and even hand-made all these items and assembled them for shipping. Postage was paid for by the KBC mission board.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time, energy and resources to help fulfill our missionary requests. By doing so, White Cross supplies are shared in the US and around the world, and help to spread the Good News and promote peace.
