"A Church You Can Call Home"

One Great Hour of Sharing Offering to be Taken During the Month of June

Dear KBC Friends,

Jesus said, "Do you love me? Feed my sheep." (John 21:15-17)

During the month of June, each of us can respond to Jesus' question, "Do you love me?" by giving to One Great Hour of Sharing.  This offering allows our American Baptist ministries to provide disaster relief and refugee aid and to meet basic needs in Christ's name throughout the world.

The members of God's flock are often forcefully scattered from their homes and livelihoods by natural disasters, disease, and poverty.  Jesus calls us to tend his sheep caught in these situations of evil and nature run amok. And with love and energy, the Church responds!

Through One Great Hour of Sharing,
• disaster victims quickly receive shelter, food, water, and medical supplies
• local communities develop secure sources of food and clean water
• minds and bodies grow stronger with new schools and medical clinics
• refugees receive housing and long-term help to construct new lives.
In these challenging times, we often wonder how much we can afford to sacrifice to help feed Jesus’ beloved sheep, when our needs remain pressing. Perhaps only our prayerful conscience can answer that. But remember the feeding of the 5,000: when Jesus asked the disciples to feed the crowd, the disciples despaired (Mark 6:34-44). The five loaves and two fish seemed insignificant compared to the massive need. Yet when each gave sacrificially from what they had, through God’s blessing, their gifts turned into a miracle of compassion for all.

Heed Jesus’ call to feed his sheep with a generous, even sacrificial, gift to One Great Hour of Sharing. Sharing your resources will change lives — including your own.

Sincerely,
Your KBC Mission Board

White Cross Summary Report 2008-2009

Congratulations to all our Kenmore Baptist family and friends who helped to complete the White Cross requests we were given this year. We exceeded our goals and sent more than $500 worth of goods to support our missionaries in this country and around the world! We assembled 28 Health kits, 4 baby kits and 4 school kits for Church World Service to distribute for disaster relief during tsunamis, hurricanes, and emergency evacuations world wide. We also sent donations to Myanmar and Nicaragua, besides 88 pounds of goods to Valley Forge for distribution in the D.R. Congo and Puerto Rico. Thanks to Esther-Elizabeth Circle, who sewed and rolled “miles” of roller bandages for use in Congo hospitals. Congo missionary Katherine Niles told us in person last December how vital those bandages and supplies are on the mission field. In our troubled world, we can help spread peace and Christian love by keeping our missionaries well supplied and working. Thank you KBC for another successful year.

White Cross Work Day
Saturday February 27 - 9:30-11:30am

All KBC women and friends are invited to attend our work day to finish gathering and organizing supplies to be shipped to our missionaries in the US and overseas. We also have some sewing projects to complete and bandages to be rolled for the D.R. Congo hospitals. A light breakfast will be served. Please come for the fellowship and to support our missionaries.

The following items are still needed:
mittens and scarves (can be handmade), patchwork pieces (3 1/2’ by 5 1/2”),2 pkg of colored construction paper, women’s socks, baby gowns, cloth diapers, baby sleepers and sweaters or sweatshirts, receiving blankets, hand towels, wide tooth combs, nail clippers, band-aids, toothbrushes in individual packages.

Please leave donations (labeled accordingly) in the office or downstairs in the White Cross closet in the Middler classroom. Thank you for each and every donation. They help make it possible to keep our missionaries in the field, spreading hope and the love of Jesus.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry will be starting up October 15 (Thursday night) at 7:30pm. We plan on meeting at least twice a month for fellowship and knitting and/or crocheting. We are still planning on working on Prayer Shawl but we have another project in mind: knitted or crocheted baby caps for preemies. The ministry could always use donated yarn for both projects. If you are not able to make it on Thursday nights, you can knit and/or crochet at home, we will get you started with yarn and patterns. Hope to see there. See Donna Ryan for details.
